Windows on Worldviews - A New Resource for GCSE and A-Level Students
Thinking Faith Network have released an innovative free video resource for RE classes which enhances secular beliefs education.
Producer Patricia Gray of RealityBites introduces "Windows on Worldviews", a new video resource designed to engage GCSE and A-Level Philosophy, Ethics, and Religious Studies students. Gray explains, "The stories are non-preachy, appealing and up-to-the minute. Humour and, occasionally, a gently ironic approach will stimulate thinking and discussion."
Writer Mark Roques adds, "I wrote this resource, with its stand-alone and complementary parts to engage and challenge critical thinking, something students badly need to develop in our complex social media-driven world." As a former RE teacher, Roques emphasizes, "I would have found a resource like this an absolute boon in the classroom."

This collection includes six short films based on true stories that explore various non-religious beliefs, supported by explanatory ’boffin slots’ that delve into the philosophical roots of these beliefs. Recent research shows that over 70% of UK youth aged 15 and older identify with no formal religion, often leaning towards a secular humanist perspective. "Windows on Worldviews" aligns with existing curriculum materials, offering an engaging way to study humanism, secularism, materialism, consumerism, scientism, atheism, new-age ideas, and religious syncretism.
The five-minute story films are rooted in popular culture, drawing from relatable narratives such as football, celebrity news, love and relationships, technology, and pop festivals. Designed for flexibility, these films can be used in any sequence, either individually or as a series. To further assist teachers, Windows on Worldviews includes a comprehensive teachers guide with discussion starters and links to additional resources. This free resource is poised to be an invaluable tool for enhancing critical thinking and supporting students’ exploration of secular worldviews in their studies.
