Trustee Rob Brown Marks Diwali in a Spirit of Inclusion and Celebration
October 20, 2025
This week, Robert Brown, Vice-Chair of Trustees at Brighton and Hove Faith in Action and a dedicated Nichiren Buddhist, marked the festival of Diwali in a way that beautifully reflects his ongoing commitment to building bridges between communities.

Although Diwali is not a festival of his own tradition, Rob has long made it a personal tradition to celebrate it alongside colleagues and friends. Sharing this photo of a colourful Diwali box with fellow trustees, he wrote:
"Happy Diwali! Where I worked in Newham Council, some of my team would celebrate Diwali, so I’d always do something for them (same as other faith traditions when I was aware that my team members followed them). So, even though I’m no longer there, I still brought in a wonderful Diwali box to celebrate with my colleagues here at work."
Rob’s gesture captures the essence of Brighton and Hove Faith in Action — recognising and celebrating the diverse faiths and cultures that make up our communities. As someone active in both faith and LGBTQIA+ communities, and with a long record of involvement in local social initiatives, Rob leads by example in fostering respect, inclusion and joy across differences.

Reflecting on why this matters, Rob said: "I believe that when we celebrate each other’s traditions, we create spaces where everyone feels seen and valued. Diwali is a time of light, joy and community — and those values belong to all of us."
We’re proud to have leaders like Rob who embody the values of solidarity and interfaith harmony.
Wishing all who celebrate a very Happy Diwali from everyone at Brighton and Hove Faith in Action.
