Multifaith Dialogue in Schools - Visit to Kings School Hove
July 01, 2026

Sabri ben Ameur, Vice-Chair of Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum and BHFA recently visited King’s School in Hove with Stuart Diamond of BNJC.
Sabri writes: "It was a real pleasure for myself and Stuart to visit the school and speak in assembly this morning. From the outset, the students were engaged, attentive, and open to the message we were sharing.
The focus of our session was ’Disagreeing Well’ the importance of being able to hold different views without hostility, and learning how to communicate respectfully even when we disagree. We also explored how important it is to pause, listen properly, and try to understand other perspectives before responding, particularly in today’s fast-paced and often online environment.
What stood out most was the thoughtfulness of the students and how quickly they were able to reflect on these ideas in relation to their own experiences. We’re really looking forward to continuing this work with the school and building on today’s session in the near future."

Savvas Costi of King’s School writes : "It was great to have Stuart and Sabri take an assembly with year 9’s on the topic of how to respond to wider faith-based conflicts. Both had spoken at the school before and helpfully modelled what a constructive conversation around a controversial topic might look like. They’re old friends who don’t always see eye-to-eye given they come from different religious backgrounds (Stuart is Jewish whereas Sabri is Muslim), but it’s great that they’re brave enough to have those difficult conversations, but always in friendly and respectful manner. It was refreshing to see and urgently needed during these polarised, fragmented times. Our students listened brilliantly and asked some great questions around what Disagreeing Well might look like. It was great to have them in to speak to our students and we very much hope to do more work with them in the future.

"The assembly taught me that whatever religion you follow, all views can be shared and discussed in a friendly way." Gabriella Roberts 9C
