On Sunday 18th November 2018 at Hove Town Hall a “Faith Covenant ” was signed between Councillor Dan Yates (Leader of the City Council) with the unanimous support of the political parties and representatives of the faith communities across Brighton & Hove.
The Faith Covenant is a joint commitment to a set of principles that guide engagement, aiming to remove any mistrust that exists and to promote open, practical working on all levels between the City Council and the Faith Community. Brokered by BHFA, the Faith Covenant encourages faith groups to apply without discrimination for Council funding, be treated respectfully by Council officers and empowered to engage in various community and social action projects in the city.
Faith communities, organisations and individuals inspired by faith provide and support the majority of community and social action projects across the city. Addressing a wide range of issues that impact both communities and the well-being of individuals from homelessness through mental health, loneliness, community cohesion, vulnerable and young people.
The Faith Hustings is an opportunity for Council election candidates to answer questions from members of the faith community about their existing and ongoing support for the assistance faith communities provide to the city.
The event is being held at Brighthelm Church & Community Centre on North Road from 7.30pm in the Hanover Room, Thursday 25 April. A panel of candidates from the political parties and local faith leaders will answer questions from the floor by attendees on issues related to faith communities and the community and social action projects they deliver and support.
