BHFA Visit the Progressive Synagogue

October 04, 2025

Trustees and staff from Brighton and Hove Faith in Action visited the Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue (BHPS) to express solidarity with the Jewish community in these challenging times. The visit was joined by Bella Sankey, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, and Fr Richard Tuset, Head of Social Cohesion for the council, reflecting the importance of faith and civic leaders coming together to support one another.

The service was led by Rabbi Gabriel Kanter-Webber, who offered a deeply moving prayer for all those affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, emphasising compassion and solidarity for people on both sides. A video clip of the prayer can be viewed here.

This visit follows a week of national reflection, after BHFA issued a statement of solidarity with the Jewish community in response to the tragic events at Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. As always, BHFA reaffirms its commitment to fostering multifaith cooperation, mutual understanding, and compassionate action in our city.

Through moments like these, we are reminded that standing together — across faiths, communities, and institutions — is the foundation for building a safer, more connected, and caring society.
