A New Chapter for Interfaith Dialogue in the UK

May 28, 2025

Earlier this month, Brighton and Hove Faith in Action (BHFA) joined 31 other leading interfaith organisations for a landmark gathering in the Forest of Dean. Hosted at the ASHA Centre by renowned human rights campaigner Zerbanoo Gifford, the two-day conference set out to reimagine the future of interfaith dialogue in England.

In a time of rising global tensions and uncertainty following the closure of the Inter Faith Network UK, this meeting served as a timely response to the need for renewed collaboration, unity, and hope. Representatives shared concerns and insights, but also a collective determination to move forward with purpose.

Key outcomes from the conference included:

  • A call for stronger coordination and communication across the faith sector
  • Renewed commitment to grassroots outreach and impact
  • The creation of a National Steering Group for Inter Faith Week
  • A pledge to strengthen networks of support among local interfaith groups

BHFA was proud to contribute to this vital conversation, with our Chair of Trustees Stuart Diamond representing us at the event. Reflecting on the experience, Stuart said:
“This gathering was not only timely but deeply energising. In the face of global and local challenges, it’s clear that interfaith collaboration must be at the heart of community resilience and peacebuilding. I was honoured to represent BHFA and inspired by the shared commitment to ensuring Inter Faith Week 2025 becomes a beacon of hope and unity.”

As Zerbanoo Gifford remarked, “It was an honour to personally host and help reenergise England’s interfaith movement, and to see so many of those that work tirelessly at the grassroots taking part. Today the movement has a new home at the ASHA Centre – a place for those working to end mistrust and misunderstanding to find strength and solidarity.”

We look forward to sharing updates as this new chapter unfolds.
